AI regulation, and Asset Classes as Charity

We start with the Dangote IPO and the wave of everyday Nigerians buying in. The excitement got so real that memes started popping up of shareholders jokingly stopping Dangote trucks on the street to tell drivers to take better care of “their” company.

That leads us into a bigger question about charity: what if, instead of only giving someone something they consume once, we found more ways to give people assets they could build from? Could someone borrow against an asset for necessities rather than sell it? Could you lock an investment away for a child and let 18 years of growth do the work? We explore where that idea makes sense, where it breaks down, and whether ownership can create a more lasting form of support.

Then we shift to AI regulation and the strangely familiar debate surrounding it. From social media to crypto, new technologies often arrive with massive promises followed by calls for tighter controls. But AI feels different when some of the loudest warnings are coming from the people building it themselves. We talk regulation, doomerism, incentives, and how seriously we should take an industry that keeps telling us its own technology could be dangerous.

Wisdom of the Day:
The best help doesn’t just solve today’s problem. It can give someone a stake in tomorrow.
